Blending with the lighter of the two...

Coloring with Copics can be quite intimidating to a beginner. I find what is most intimidating is the neutral color palette (the browns and skin tones) Here are my tips when color with Copics:

I'm starting with a Stampin Up image. I stamped my paper with Memento Tuxedo Black ink. Here I'm using neutral colors. I choose E11, E33 and E57.  Start by putting down your lightest color first (E11) all over the image you want to shade. I'm imagining the light coming from the top right of the page so I want my highlight to be on the top right side of the image. Next the middle color where you want your middle tone shading (E33) and lastly your very darkest color in a small amount where you want your darkest shadow (E57) on the left and bottom edges.

Now we're gonna start to blend. Using the lighter of the two darkest shades blend (in small circles) the shadowed area only with your middle color (E33) and blend between the two. You always want to use the lighter of the two shades to blend.

Next you'll want to use the lighter of your lightest shades (your highlight color - E11) and blend out your middle shade so that is it smooth. This will allow your image to still have highlight tones as well as shadows. Your image won't be as light as it originally was just because your paper will soak up more of your highlight color. The more saturated the paper is the darker the ink will appear.

Remember to press lightly when using these markers. you don't need to soak the paper to get good color results. You only want to see a little bit of color coming thru the back (depending on the paper you are using.) Over soaking your paper will result in bleeding outside your stamped image.

Remember to practice with your copics! Practice makes perfect!

Fiskateer Blog Hop! and extra goodie!

Welcome to the Fiskateer Blog Hop! If you came here from Groovy Deb's (#2644) blog, you're in the right spot!! If you have stumbled upon the blog hop you can start at the beginning at

Thanks for stopping by!  Monday I was lucky enough to take a Copic Certification Class in Pittsburgh where I was officially made a Copic Certified Designer.  Here is the project I made to share with you:

I started with a white cardstock base, and ran a piece of Prima patterned paper (orange and pink) thru the cuttlebug with a tim holtz embossing folder and glued that down to my card base.

Here is my image (i've been using this alot lately!) its a C.C. Designs Stamp from the Sugarplums collection and its called "Spring Couple".  They're just so cute! anyways, here are the copic colors i used: C1, C3, E44, E57, YR07, R02, R24,Y08, Y04, B23, B26, V12, V15.  Stamped with memento ink.

I cut out my stamped image with my Fiskars craft mat, finger tip craft knife and of course my orange handled scissors!

I cut out a piece of light lavender using a nestabilities label die. and put my stamped image on top of that.

I decided my diecut was boring so i used an copic multiliner and a copic marker (V09) to edge and decorate.

I added ribbon and glued down my stamped image and diecut over top. I tied a bow with the ribbon seperate and attached it to the card after.

Here is my finished card! I hope you like it!!

Alrighty and I have an extra special prize to give away for the blog hop! A little giveaway just for stopping by on my blog!

So leave a comment and I'll enter you into a drawing for an Ultra ShapeXpress and some stickers!!!

Fur Babies

I love my dogs.  They are currently the only kids I have.  It's funny having a young male beagle and an older female beagle. They are brother and sister  and they fight and play like a brother and sister would.  Sometimes they tag-team and they both get into trouble and sometimes one tells on the other (my older beagle is my security alert when the younger beagle gets his way out of our fence).  They can really drive me nuts sometimes. But regardless of what they do. I truly do love them and can't imagine my life without a dog. They're cute and sweet when they want to be.

that is why I made this layout of them.  One of the rare moments when they are cute and innocent and i had to make a cute layout that represented their cuteness.

I used 3 circle punches (1in, 1.375in 1.5in) and my fiskars circle cutter to cut 2in circles. I inked all the edges of the circles and the patterned paper.

For the journaling spot, I used the corner and border punches from stampin up. and letter stickers for the title. I few buttons as embellishments and the page was complete.

I just love the photo of my babies. They are so sweet in the photo. Now if they could behave that well all the time...

Sketch Layout Design Team

I don't know if you know this, but I've been participating in Judy's Pieces of Me Fabulous Friday Sketch Design Team. She simple asked for volunteers to design layouts based on her sketch designs and we (a great group of scrapbooking gals) send her our creations and thus she shows the world our layouts based on her sketch.

Here are a few layouts I've made based on her sketches:

I really suggest you check out these sketch challenges and how everyone is interpreting them as their own!

My scrappy friend Tina has blog candy!!!

She's got some adorable cards on display plus some awesome blog candy!!!

layouts with minimal embellishments

With all the great embellishments out there, I sometimes get overwhelmed when shopping for scrapbooking supplies. Then when I bring those embellishments home and start working on scrapbook pages, I sometimes get selfish because I don't want to use all the cute embellishments that I have.

Then I start thinking, well scrapbooking is about telling a story with photos and I don't want my photos to get lost in my layouts so how can i embellish them without over powering my photos but still bring out the theme?

In these two layouts, (based on Ali Davis sketches) I used a minimal amount of embellishments. I used paper that really focuses on the theme at hand. Both layouts are about being in a garden. In the "Picking Veggies" layout I used green and pink papers with flourishes and swirls. To me they represent vines and flowers. In the "Our Garden..." layout I used a green garden like paper and a dirt brown paper for its representation. On both layouts I used stitching and stamping to bring it all together. Each layout has its unique elements that embellish without overpowering.

In this layout "Introducing Colten" I used two small strips of patterned paper above and below the photo matting and two solid blue cardstock circles in the background to bring color into the layout. My embellishments of choice? Stamped circles! Cute little animals like you would see in a babies room go with the theme of the brand new baby photos.

And you can apply a simple design to cards as well. Here I embossed the solid background papers and added a little ribbon. Cute and simple and doesn't over do it!

You can have simple layouts without being boring. Not over embellishing allows your layouts to shine!! As much as I love my embellishments, I love to hoard them too. So if you're like me, don't feel bad! You can still design beautiful layouts without it being too busy!

Ok onto the giveaway! I have a box of goodies to give to one lucky follower! Some of the supplies are used/leftovers, some are items I never used or will never use and I hope someone else can use. Some of it is punched shapes, stamped images, cards and embellishments. I also have an acrylic album and a Fiskars Ultra Shape Xpress (brand new) and a handmade item for you. Wanna win???

To win this box of goodies?

I've been so MIA

All is well in Shannon Land. I recently met a new online friend who will soon be a real life friend. Lol Her name is Robin; she is a Creative Memories Demonstrator and hosts crops in Dover. I will be attending her August 28th crop!

In other news, I will be taking a Copic Certification class in September. I'm totally psyched! I love those markers and to be certified would be awesome. Maybe I could get my LSS into letting me demo the markers for stamping! If not them then maybe my local art supply store? The lady that runs Cook's is so super nice!

As for today, I went scrapbook shopping! I am so happy to have some much needed supplies. I was completely out of adhesive runners (i'm now stock up on 7). I also got tacky tape, a cricut cutting mat, a2 envelopes, some new paper and cardstock, some new blades for my Fiskars Trimmer (HEART), two more copics (hehe) and of course a few more random items.

On the fiskateers site I am hosting my very first ATC swap that is going until September 18th. The swap is closed and the ladies are creating their cards but what they are creating makes me super happy...FAIRY ATCs!!! I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with. I will post mine closer to when the swap is over.
