layouts with minimal embellishments

With all the great embellishments out there, I sometimes get overwhelmed when shopping for scrapbooking supplies. Then when I bring those embellishments home and start working on scrapbook pages, I sometimes get selfish because I don't want to use all the cute embellishments that I have.

Then I start thinking, well scrapbooking is about telling a story with photos and I don't want my photos to get lost in my layouts so how can i embellish them without over powering my photos but still bring out the theme?

In these two layouts, (based on Ali Davis sketches) I used a minimal amount of embellishments. I used paper that really focuses on the theme at hand. Both layouts are about being in a garden. In the "Picking Veggies" layout I used green and pink papers with flourishes and swirls. To me they represent vines and flowers. In the "Our Garden..." layout I used a green garden like paper and a dirt brown paper for its representation. On both layouts I used stitching and stamping to bring it all together. Each layout has its unique elements that embellish without overpowering.

In this layout "Introducing Colten" I used two small strips of patterned paper above and below the photo matting and two solid blue cardstock circles in the background to bring color into the layout. My embellishments of choice? Stamped circles! Cute little animals like you would see in a babies room go with the theme of the brand new baby photos.

And you can apply a simple design to cards as well. Here I embossed the solid background papers and added a little ribbon. Cute and simple and doesn't over do it!

You can have simple layouts without being boring. Not over embellishing allows your layouts to shine!! As much as I love my embellishments, I love to hoard them too. So if you're like me, don't feel bad! You can still design beautiful layouts without it being too busy!

Ok onto the giveaway! I have a box of goodies to give to one lucky follower! Some of the supplies are used/leftovers, some are items I never used or will never use and I hope someone else can use. WOW I love your minimal embellishment LOs. I am working on a scrapbook for a friend of mine and I have tried doing it with on too many things also just using patterned papers and stamped items. I like how the pages are turning out. I think we get caught up in the embellishment rage like you said and I know I do more "hoarding" than using!!!

Your layouts are adorable, especially the introding Colton layout. But I really like the cards. I have never stamped and colored in the imagine before, but thinking that I really need to try that.

What an awesome and fun giveaway.

I can't believe how great these are. At first I thought no way she didn't use embellishments but then when I really looked at them the pictures took center stage and the embellishments are on the side.

I love to use embellishments and like you said have tons of them, wouldn't mind a few more in the way of a prize, hee, but a lot of times I find myself leaving them off because I love the pictures too much to distract from them.

I'm going to post your site link to Facebook, so hopefully a lot of other people will find you.

Shannon,

First, I am surprised to find out that I was not already a follower of your blog!

Your LOs and cards are all great! I like to add embellishments to projects. However, a friend and I just had a conversation on Tuesday about how sometimes less is better. Sometimes I add something, and then think that I should have quit! There is a lot be be said for simplicity.

I would like to win you prize because I have had my eye on the USX and I would really love to have something handmade by you! I like getting things other people have shopped for (even leftovers) because sometimes I get in a rut and tend to buy the same types of items. It is always nice to try a new style.

Thanks for sharing your advice about keeping things simple and for the chance to win a prize.

Oh, I will share in two places. On my own blog(which I know really needs an update!) and on facebook.
