Sketch Layout Design Team

I don't know if you know this, but I've been participating in Judy's Pieces of Me Fabulous Friday Sketch Design Team. She simple asked for volunteers to design layouts based on her sketch designs and we (a great group of scrapbooking gals) send her our creations and thus she shows the world our layouts based on her sketch.

Here are a few layouts I've made based on her sketches:

I really suggest you check out these sketch challenges and how everyone is interpreting them as their own!

My scrappy friend Tina has blog candy!!!

She's got some adorable cards on display plus some awesome blog candy!!!

layouts with minimal embellishments

With all the great embellishments out there, I sometimes get overwhelmed when shopping for scrapbooking supplies. Then when I bring those embellishments home and start working on scrapbook pages, I sometimes get selfish because I don't want to use all the cute embellishments that I have.

Then I start thinking, well scrapbooking is about telling a story with photos and I don't want my photos to get lost in my layouts so how can i embellish them without over powering my photos but still bring out the theme?

In these two layouts, (based on Ali Davis sketches) I used a minimal amount of embellishments. I used paper that really focuses on the theme at hand. Both layouts are about being in a garden. In the "Picking Veggies" layout I used green and pink papers with flourishes and swirls. To me they represent vines and flowers. In the "Our Garden..." layout I used a green garden like paper and a dirt brown paper for its representation. On both layouts I used stitching and stamping to bring it all together. Each layout has its unique elements that embellish without overpowering.

In this layout "Introducing Colten" I used two small strips of patterned paper above and below the photo matting and two solid blue cardstock circles in the background to bring color into the layout. My embellishments of choice? Stamped circles! Cute little animals like you would see in a babies room go with the theme of the brand new baby photos.

And you can apply a simple design to cards as well. Here I embossed the solid background papers and added a little ribbon. Cute and simple and doesn't over do it!

You can have simple layouts without being boring. Not over embellishing allows your layouts to shine!! As much as I love my embellishments, I love to hoard them too. So if you're like me, don't feel bad! You can still design beautiful layouts without it being too busy!

Ok onto the giveaway! I have a box of goodies to give to one lucky follower! Some of the supplies are used/leftovers, some are items I never used or will never use and I hope someone else can use. I've been so MIA

All is well in Shannon Land. I recently met a new online friend who will soon be a real life friend. Lol Her name is Robin; she is a Creative Memories Demonstrator and hosts crops in Dover. I will be attending her August 28th crop!

In other news, I will be taking a Copic Certification class in September. I'm totally psyched! I love those markers and to be certified would be awesome. Maybe I could get my LSS into letting me demo the markers for stamping! If not them then maybe my local art supply store? The lady that runs Cook's is so super nice!

As for today, I went scrapbook shopping! I am so happy to have some much needed supplies. I was completely out of adhesive runners (i'm now stock up on 7). I also got tacky tape, a cricut cutting mat, a2 envelopes, some new paper and cardstock, some new blades for my Fiskars Trimmer (HEART), two more copics (hehe) and of course a few more random items.

On the fiskateers site I am hosting my very first ATC swap that is going until September 18th. The swap is closed and the ladies are creating their cards but what they are creating makes me super happy...FAIRY ATCs!!! I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with. I will post mine closer to when the swap is over.
